Solo-wing Pixy in Ace Combat Zero has a back-story that was not explicitly discussed.
During a mission, the F-15 he pilots has its right wing blown off. Despite of the damage, Pixy still managed to complete the sortie with one wing, and managed to bring the damaged plane home to safety.
This backstory was somehow inspired by Israeli Air Force's F-15 training exercise accident, where an F-15 had a mid-air collision which took out its right wing. The IAF pilot managed to land the one winged plane back to safety. So yea
